WALES WON GOLD

The winning Welsh team: Gary Jones, Tim Rees, John Salisbury, Patrick Jourdain, Mike Tedd & Tony Ratcliff

Wales won the Gold Medals at the Commonwealth Nations Bridge Championship held in Glasgow in September 2014. The national teams of 17 Commonwealth countries competed in the event which was first held alongside the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester.

Following 4 days of round-robin matches to reach the knockout phases, Wales beat Canada (gold medallists in Manchester 2002) and then India (gold medallists in Melbourne 2006). England and India took the silver and bronze medals.

Wales had two teams selected after trials. The Wales 2 team of Patrick Shields & Paul Denning, Julian Pottage & Richard Plackett only just missed out on the knockout phases.
