Perry Shield and Spickett Bowl 2008

The two inter-area teams finals were held at The Rest Hotel, Porthcawl on 17th 18th May. In the Open category for the Perry Shield, the East started at a terrific pace and scored 68/75 VPs on Saturday afternoon and held a very healthy lead. However this gradually diminished and by the final match on Saturday, West needed a 20-10 victory to snatch the title. They couldn't do it though, losing by 22-8. North and Mid-Wales were a rather distant third and fourth.

The Spickett Bowl is the equivalent Ladies event. The East were again early leaders, but in this competition this didn't last as the North scored 69/75 in the Saturday evening session. No one was likely to catch them and although mathematically as the last match was played, it was possible for West to catch them if they scored a heavy win against the East and the North suffered a catastrophic defeat at the hands of the Mid. In practice, West overcame East to consolidate second place while the North inflicted a final defeat on Mid-Wales.

Rather disappointingly neither trophy was available to be presented to the winners, so if some one knows which cupboard they are in it would be great if they could be conveyed to the winners.
