Bridge Behaviour

A recurring theme from the members' survey in 2011 was concern that enjoyment of the game can be compromised by the poor behaviour of a minority of players.

The WBU Management Committee set up a working party to look at these issues, whose report was published on this site as a consultation document. A good number of helpful comments were received, which have helped us develop our policy, which is explained in this guide "It's only a game". The key statement is this:

We will promote a playing environment which, by improving attitudes and behaviour at bridge, promotes enjoyment of the game by players of all standards.

Copies of this guide are being sent to each club, together with enough copies of a shorter summary for all members. Many clubs may feel that they have no difficulties with players' behaviour, so it is left to each club to decide how to use these.

Online copies are also available here:

Our thanks for developing this policy are due to too many people to list, but we particularly thank Alan Lightbody and Adrian Thomas for the main work on the initial report and Laura Woodruff who was the main author of the guide.
