WBU Trials 2007

Opn trials have been taking place to help the selectors (Peter Garner-Gray the chairman, with Peter Hand, Jim Luck and Tom Reddy) in their task to choose the teams for next year.

It will be a busy year, with the European Championships in Pau and the World Mind Sports Games (previously called the Olympiad) in Beijing, as well as the usual Camrose matches. There will also be a Senior Camrose at the start of June.

Eight pairs took part in a pre-trial event held on Saturday 8th September. Four of those pairs qualified to join four others in the first weekend of trials held at Gwent Bridge Academy on 29-30 September. Eight pairs played as four teams. From this five pairs went forward to a final trial, joined by three exempted pairs, forming four teams as follows:

Patrick Shields and Paul Denning, Adrian Thomas and Peter Goodman;
Gary Jones and Dafydd Jones, Patrick Jourdain and Tony Ratcliff;
Mark Roderick and Mike Best, Mike Tedd and John Salisbury;
Liam Sheridan and Gwynneth Dew, Sue Ingham and Gwynn Davis.

Filip Kurbalija and Tim Rees were exempted from the whole trials process.

The results of the three weeekends can be seen in these pages:
