Welsh Junior Bridge Day
Gwent Bridge Academy
Saturday 8th July 2006

This event took the form of a pairs session, each junior (under 25) partnering an over 25.

It proved a great success with 17 pairs taking part.  Junior ages ranged from 12 to 24 with the majority being under 16 and 13 having eligibility for Wales – this bodes well for the future of the Peggy Bayer squad.  The event was skilfully directed by Gareth Evans who also played and did the scoring.

Alongside the main event was a minibridge table of 4, ably instructed and managed by Daphne Patrick.

There was also a friendly table of adults, one a beginner, who had come along to support the juniors.

The event was judged by all to be a great success and we expect it to become a regular fixture in the Welsh calendar.

Players travelled from as far afield as Salisbury and Carmarthen.

The winners were John Atthey from Stroud, partnered by Mark Roderick a past Welsh junior Camrose player.  Second were Dan McIntosh and Tom Reddy, and third Katy and Marc Lee.
